THE LAST NOMADS IN ANATOLIA: SARIKECILIS
ABOUT THE MOVIE
They migrate from winter areas to summer areas and from summer areas to autumn areas, as their ancestors once did. As agricultural lands have grown considerably, forested areas have shrunk and pastures are increasingly protected by village institutions, fewer and fewer migration routes remain for Sarıkeçili nomads and their numbers are gradually decreasing.
Sarıkeçili, the last representatives of a centuries-old tradition, the nomadic lifestyle in Anatolia, spend seven months of the year on the road to reach sea level in the winter and high places in the summer. They make a living from the goats they raise. However, today, the expansion of agricultural lands, the increase in forest afforestation activities and legal practices are narrowing the migration routes of Sarıkeçili nomads, and therefore their numbers are decreasing day by day.
It brings together the traditions, lifestyles, migration routes and rituals of Sarıkeçili with the audience. Documenting a difficult struggle for life, the film also reveals a rich folklore and ethnography.
